We should build nuclear-powered data centers on existing U.S. military bases.
This solves many problems at once:
The gov already owns and controls the land (bases are often huge), so no zoning complaints.
Protestors? Talk to the Marines at the gate.
Navy already operates a fleet of many compact, reliable nuclear power plants on submarines and ships.
The on-base reactors can be used for vital training for our nuke operators.
These datacenters can be used for both government and public access, as a taxpayer-funded service.
One submarine-sized reactor (~70 MWe electrical equivalent) could power a mid-sized dedicated AI cluster or a large inference facility… comparable to a single 50–80 MW hyperscale building.
One carrier reactor (~200 MWe electrical equivalent) could power a substantial AI campus, on the order of a 150–200 MW training cluster.
