The[company announced on Thursday](https://blog.google/innovation-and-ai/products/gemini-notebook/notebooklm-gemini-notebook/)that NotebookLM is becoming Gemini Notebook, but will remain a standalone app even as it integrates more deeply across Gemini and Google Search\. Google first revealed Gemini Notebook —[then called Project Tailwind](https://www.theverge.com/2023/5/10/23718707/google-io-2023-project-tailwind-personal-ai-notebook)— in May 2023 before widely[releasing the app just months later](https://www.theverge.com/2023/7/12/23792382/google-notebooklm-tailwind-ai-notes)\. Over the past few years, Google has been adding new features to the app to help organize and make sense of your notes, such as the ability to summarize them[as AI podcasts](https://www.theverge.com/2024/9/11/24242138/google-notebook-llm-ai-fake-podcasts-research),[narrated slideshows](https://www.theverge.com/news/715283/google-notebooklm-video-overviews-studio-ai), and[TikTok\-style clips](https://www.theverge.com/tech/959778/google-notebooklm-ai-clips)\. It recently started[letting users connect their notebooks](https://www.theverge.com/tech/909031/google-gemini-notebooks-notebooklm)to the Gemini app as well\. Google says it plans to bring notebooks to AI Mode, its chatbot\-like experience in Search, too\. Along with the name change, Google is rolling out an update announced last month that allows Gemini Notebook to[connect to a secure cloud computer](https://www.theverge.com/tech/944325/google-notebooklm-ai-gemini-update)to write and execute code\.
