it has always been part of the human experience to customise and diy. Growing up on a farm in a rural community, I have seen A LOT of mechanical hacks, diy, customisation. Electronics stuff has always been seen by those around me as the end of that, as: “i don’t want this new car / tractor / equipment” because i can’t fix it myself. THIS IS NO LONGER TRUE!!! With coding agents the electronics parts are now easier to fix and more malleable then the mechanical parts. This making things custom and creation of your own tooling is not new and not a fade. It is a deep and old human enterprise and computing was the exception and that exception is finally going away. There will be a lot of products that will disappear because of that.
think about it, cooking at home is a choice to customise and diy everyday that most take at the expense of a significant portion of their resources (time).
