Just discovered this repo is essentially scraping the API at https://docs.ascendapi.com/introduction, and it’s even using the old v1 (Free Version).
The new v2 is much more powerful, with Images, HD videos (looks better than GIFs from what I’ve seen). I tested it — the video quality is excellent. There’s also a Muscle Visualizer, a component that highlights different muscle groups, which is a really clever idea. V2 offers generous free tier limits: All free plans include a limit of 1,000 requests per hour per API key (video usage is separate). I think even for small apps, with some caching, that’s enough.
I now realize there’s real demand for selling these niche services. For example, a fitness API like this has almost no competitors. When your data quality is high, it’s almost a monopoly. They also sell one-time data downloads — you can grab everything for $600, and the dataset isn’t huge.
