Microsoft just open-sourced a project called Resource2Skill, along with an arXiv paper.
The name says it all: Resource → Skill.
It addresses a question about “skill” that no one had directly tackled before: Where do skills actually come from?
Previously, they were written one by one by humans.
Now it takes what humans have already created — tutorial videos, articles, code, reference materials — and automatically distills them into executable skills that an agent can run directly.
And it’s not just theoretical: the agent can browse, combine, and run these skills,
actually producing web pages, PPTs, Excel workbooks, Blender scenes, and even audio compositions.
· Skills are moving from “handwritten by humans” to “automatically extracted from human resources.”
· Once this matures, any human experience that involves making things can be compressed into an agent’s skills.
