# KDE for People Source: [https://kdeforpeople.com/](https://kdeforpeople.com/) We are a community of KDE users and contributors, calling for the KDE Project to adopt a No\-AI policy for the KDE Plasma Desktop and other related components\. Recently, there has been a lot of uproar within the KDE Community and within KDE Projects\.[KDE Eco](https://floss.social/@be4foss/117309416868904539)has already declared that a policy which allows for AI use within KDE is incompatible with KDE Eco goals and values\. Similarly, we want to make ourselves heard\. **KDE Should place a ban on Generative AI in Plasma and Plasma Components\.** Other parts of KDE should be considered too\. This ban should be founded on a pro\-people outlook to community, ethics and with respect for the work that has gone into KDE software and projects for decades\. This isn't about figuring out the exact percentage of AI in any given commit, things will slip through\. This is about signaling to the outside what kind of community KDE is, and keeping true to[KDE's vision for the future](https://community.kde.org/KDE/Vision); About privacy and control, but first and foremost about the people of KDE\. It**erodes trust**in the project, makes it**more difficult to review code**,**harms privacy**and exerts[many more](https://justsayno.ai/)negative effects on many people,[as shown by Amnesty International](https://www.amnesty.org/en/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/POL4009962026ENGLISH.pdf)\. The[proposed policy](https://archive.ph/6YccJ)\([original link, now dead](https://invent.kde.org/plasma/plasma-workspace/-/work_items/187)\) ignores many of the issues around human rights and many harms of this technology, pushing the responibility to the contributor without addressing their wider\-reaching consequences, even outside of KDE Plasma\. Additionally, the proposal to decide on this policy without wider community involvement works against the interest of the public on the issue and could be seen as malicious\. A ban should include**outputs of Generative AI tools in code and assets**, as well as using it for MR descriptions, issues or translation \(e\.g\. the \.po files\)\. Related community spaces should also be considered, to avoid Vibe\-Coding, the introduction of AI topics into Akademy and KDE Planet and more normalization of this practice in the KDE Community\.
