Recently built a Mac-native AI reading tool called OakReader. While reading PDF papers/eBooks or browsing the web, when you're confused, just press a button to open the sidebar, select a passage of text, and you can discuss it with your favorite AI model without ever having to switch to ChatGPT / Claude / DeepSeek. During reading, capture your thoughts with a single button that opens a note-taking plugin, allowing you to jot down notes as easily as in Flomo / Slack / WeChat. When you need to translate foreign-language literature, one click opens the built-in translation plugin. It also includes a browser for directly viewing saved web pages. For reference management, this tool supports features similar to Zotero, including catalog tag management and citation management. For AI model configuration, you can set up your own API key or log in via OAuth with your ChatGPT account — and it's completely free to use. Recently, I developed a Mac-native AI reading tool called OakReader. When reading PDF papers/ebooks or browsing the web, if you encounter confusion, just press a button to open the sidebar, circle a passage, and discuss it with your favorite AI model—no more switching to ChatGPT/Claude/DeepSeek for chatting.

For thoughts during reading, press a button to open the note plugin, allowing you to take notes casually like Flomo/Slack/WeChat. When you need to translate foreign literature, instantly open the built-in translation plugin. It also has a built-in browser function, so you can directly browse saved web pages.

For literature management, this tool also supports the same functionality as Zotero, including catalog label management and citation management. For AI model configuration, you can configure your API Key, or log in via OAuth with your ChatGPT account, completely free.

This tool incorporates many of my thoughts on the product design of AI reading tools. Interested friends are welcome to download, try it out, and provide feedback at http://oakreader.com
