What exactly are we cheering for with every new model release

Reddit r/AI_Agents News

Summary

The author critiques the celebration of new AI model releases, arguing that while code generation is faster, bottlenecks in code review and decision-making remain unresolved, leading to increased output but decreased code comprehension.

"Opus 5.5 built the whole feature in 30 minutes" or "it fixed the bug GPT was stuck on for a week". Every release it's the same posts. Okay, cool? Nobody posts the other half. Our team merges about 3x what it did last year and the number of people who can explain what we shipped went down, not up. The code gets written in 30 minutes and then sits in review for 2 days because it's 8000 lines nobody asked for. coderabbit / bugbot take the first pass and that helps, but somebody still has to decide if the thing should exist at all. I'm not anti AI, I use it all day. I just don't get the celebrating when the part that was already the bottleneck got worse. Curious to hear sensible takes. Note: before the usual reply, yes it saves time on the writing part. I'm asking what happens to everything after it.

The Final Bottleneck
