It finally hit me

A top reverse engineer used AI tools like Claude to complete a difficult CTF challenge in hours instead of days, demonstrating AI's rapid advancement in cybersecurity tasks.

So, i am working in cybersecurity, and I consider myself to have a quite good grasp of LLMs and their uses. We are slowly integrating AI in our workflows in a controlled way. And I understand the progress AI is making, but I always thought there will be a slowdown at some point. My colleague is a expert reverse engineer. And by expert I mean one of the top in Europe. He is using AI in his workflows, but he did not think that AI will be able to reverse binaries independently any time soon. This weekend Flare-ON CRF started. This is one of the hardest CTF challenges in the world. 11 tasks of increasing difficulty. My colleague always finishes in the top 100. All previous years it took him about 10-12 days to finish, with 6 or so days for the last challenge. The challenge opened on Friday during the night, and by morning already there were dozens of players that finished all 11 levels. So he decided to full on use AI to see what's up. He finished it in 2 hours, on the Claude pro plan without hitting the 5hour limit. I saw with my own eyes, for the last challenge he just uploaded the Linux binaries and wrote: "This is the last challenge, do your thing and find the flag". The Opus 5.5 worked for 20 mins and found the correct flag. For something that past years took experts 5-6 days to do. Yea, so that's it, guess I should learn plumbing...
