01 · The Five

A solar system of small jobs

Each tool is named for a planet, and each planet has a job. The naming is not decoration. It is how the tool tells you what it is about to touch.

1. Earth · CleanserCleanRainwater clears the soil. Old caches wash to sea. Eleven categories: app caches, browser temp files, Xcode build, npm and pip downloads, Discord, Slack, Adobe, ChatGPT and Claude leftovers, user logs, .DS_Store. Untick what you want to keep; the rest is removed permanently so the freed bytes match the headline. One toggle in Settings sends caches to the Trash instead.
2. Mars · ForgetterUninstallRed dust covers what you’ve outgrown. Pick the apps you no longer open. Mole finds the leftover preferences, application support, caches, launch agents, and login items, then warns before touching anything that looks like personal data.
3. Mercury · MessengerOptimizeClosest orbit, swiftest run. Small fixes, many turns. Twenty-two safe maintenance tasks, one tap. Rebuild Quick Look and Spotlight indexes, vacuum SQLite stores, flush DNS, repair Launch Services, prune notification history, reset Bluetooth and the network stack. 02 · How it behaves

Conservative by default

Mac cleaners earned a bad reputation by being noisy and aggressive. Mole takes the opposite stance. The defaults assume you want things kept, not removed.

1. 1**Nothing leaves your Mac.**No analytics, no telemetry, no remote scan. Files, sizes, and folder names are read locally and stay local. The only outbound calls are license validation and the update check.
2. 2**Show before you remove.**Every cleanup, every uninstall, every disk-trash action shows the file list and total bytes first. You confirm; Mole acts. There is no silent background sweep.
3. 3**Trash for what you might miss.**Apps you uninstall and folders you trash from the disk map go through the system Trash, so a wrong tap is recoverable. Caches are removed permanently so the bytes you see in the headline are bytes you got back. One switch in Settings flips that if you want either changed.
4. 4**Refuse when unsure.**System paths, your home essentials, and anything outside Mole’s known cache locations are denied at the safety layer. The app would rather skip a file than risk one.
5. 5**Setup walks with you.**First launch is a short wizard, not a checklist. Mole asks for Full Disk Access, then activation, then drops you on the dashboard. No dark patterns, no upsell wedged into permissions.

Is there a free trial?Yes. Download and scan for free to see exactly what Mole would clean and how much space you would get back. Cleaning, uninstalling, and optimizing require a license.Is there a free version?TheMole CLIis open source on GitHub, MIT-licensed, and free forever. The Mac app is the polished GUI layer for people who prefer click over type.What is the difference between the CLI and the Mac app?Same cleaning engine, different interface. The CLI runs in your terminal and is free. The Mac app adds a visual disk treemap, live system dashboard, one-click workflows, and the planet design system. Choose whichever fits how you work.Does it work without Full Disk Access?Yes. Mole runs a safe scan by default.
