Since launching in 2021, our Android Earthquake Alerts System has sent 1B+ alerts. Now we’re expanding the system from 98 to nearly 200 countries and regions.

Proud how this technology can help in moments that really matter. As one example, when the devastating earthquakes hit Venezuela this year, millions of people outside the epicenter got alerts and could take cover before the shaking began.

Android earthquake alerts now available in more than 200 regions

Source: https://blog.google/products-and-platforms/platforms/android/android-earthquake-alerts-expansion-2026/ We’ve sent over one billion Android earthquake alerts. Now, we’re expanding alerts to more places and adding new details, helping more people take action and stay safe.

A few seconds of warning when an earthquake hits can give you crucial time to take cover and protect yourself and your loved ones. To make these early warnings possible at scale, we built the Android Earthquake Alerts System — the world’s largest mobile-based earthquake detection network.

Since launching in 2021, we’ve sent over one billion alerts to help people safe before the shaking even starts. Today, we’re expanding the system from 98 countries and regions to more than 200 — including Panama, Guatemala and many more.

We’re also improving our latest “Be Ready” alert to give you more information in seconds. If an earthquake occurs in a region where alerts are active, Android users can expect to see one of three alerts:

• **Be Aware:**A straightforward alert for estimated light shaking, letting you know an earthquake has been detected nearby.
• **Be Ready:**A detailed alert for stronger shaking, alerting you to prepare to take action.
• **Take Action:**A full-screen alert for moderate to heavy shaking, giving you immediate advice on how to stay safe.

We’ve built-out our Be Ready alert with new helpful guidance. In the coming months, you’ll see a map with a radius of where we’ve detected shaking, estimated earthquake magnitude, action you can take, and a button to learn more about the earthquake as information comes in.

Our physical safety products are deeply important to us. While we hope they never get used, we’re grateful to be able to bring more information to more people when they need it most.
