The toothbrush’s touchscreen lets you swipe through eight cleaning modes including gum health, max clean, and sensitive options\. To help ensure you’re not pressing too hard while you brush, causing damage, the glowing ring on the base of the brush changes color to indicate when you should be a little gentler\. But the 9900 Prestige also uses pressure sensors to adjust its intensity when you’re pressing too hard so the bristles go easier on your gums\.
The touchscreen also displays what Philips calls a mouth map representing your teeth and gums in 12 different segments that are highlighted in blue or orange indicating how effective your brushing was\. The 9900 Prestige tracks its movements in your mouth while you brush and areas it deems in need of a little more attention glow orange so you know exactly what areas you need to target during a second pass\.
