Impossible isn’t French!
In just 9 months, the Parisian startup @UMA_Robots has created its first robot prototype!
Founded by former Tesla Optimus, DeepMind, and Hugging Face engineers, the company is developing a robot controlled by end-to-end AI: it observes its environment, decides, and acts without preprogrammed trajectories, using real-time learning.
The goal is to address three crises: labor shortages, reindustrialization, and the ecological transition, as the founder explains in a presentation at Station F.
According to UMA, there could be a shortage of 85 million workers worldwide in four years, resulting in $8,500 billion in lost economic value.
Europe is moreover presented as the best first market due to the high cost of labor and its urgent automation needs.
The first wheeled models will be tested as early as the end of the year in factories and warehouses.
Supported notably by Xavier Niel, Yann LeCun, and Mistral co-founder Guillaume Lample, UMA aims to put Europe back in the race against the United States and China.
