A group of us from the AI grantmaking orgs, AI labs, natsec policy and cyber worlds are creating an AI Cybersecurity Observatory non-profit that’d provide continuous forecasting and epidemiology around the coming wave of AI automated cyberattacks to policymakers and cyber defenders.
No such organization currently exists and policy is being made on weak signals and vibes.
We have soft commitments of funding pending finding a founder who’d lead the organization and recruit its staff. Would appreciate retweets to help us find the right person. More info and a place to register interest here:

AI Security Observatory — Founding Director: Expression of Interest
Source: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScXG7rs6PgmhTsRMbe6dTL0YiUBApz6zovAzxKaVk1yRQKhSA/viewform AI is rapidly reshaping both cyber attack and cyber defense. Yet AI cybersecurity policy is being made without empirical grounding: we lack systematic evidence on how attackers and defenders are actually using AI, whether AI is increasing or reducing real-world losses, and which interventions best minimize net harm.
The AI Cybersecurity Observatory will close that gap. It will track real-world patterns of attacker and defender AI use, estimate net harms and benefits across the security ecosystem, maintain a continuously updated epidemiology-style dashboard of key trends, and publish six reports a year whose forecasts are scored against subsequent outcomes. It will translate that evidence into practical policy recommendations: playbooks for hardening critical infrastructure and accelerating defensive AI adoption, calibrated rules for model rollout and access, and proposals for new regulation.
We have secured commitments for eight-figure seed funding, with further soft commitments pending, and we are now recruiting a full-time Founding Director to build and lead the organization. Use this form to express interest or to recommend someone.
