Anthropic’s “growth slowdown” may be overinterpreted.
August is the peak vacation season, when token consumption should naturally decline, but OpenAI and Anthropic still achieved solid month-over-month growth.
In September, OpenAI released Astra, and users naturally shifted some budget to try it out.
After completing a large-scale programming project with Astra, Tech Fund concluded: Astra is indeed smart, but Opus 5.5 is overall more efficient and better suited for collaboration, and Anthropic will soon release a new version of Fable.
In the long term, Anthropic may still maintain a strong share in high-difficulty tasks, which will contribute the majority of the industry’s ARR.
Open-source models, meanwhile, will dominate more standardized tasks, handling greater token demand, but with lower revenue and profit margins.
