With the optimized vLLM implementation in the Nemotron Transcribe NIM, one RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Server Edition GPU transcribes up to 2,238 seconds of audio per second (NVFP4 with DFlash2 speculative decoding) and returns the transcript of a 30-second recording in 0.13 seconds. These serving optimizations are not yet part of the open-source release; we aim to upstream them to NeMo Speech and vLLM at a later date. The vLLM integration shipped in NeMo Speech on the release day is intended for model development and is expected to be roughly two times slower.

**Architecture Type:**Other - hybrid Mamba-Transformer mixture-of-experts (MoE) language model with a Transformer audio encoder
**Network Architecture:**Nemotron 3.5 Lightning hybrid Mamba-Transformer MoE with Transformer ASR encoder and Sortformer speaker encoder
**Design:**Audio perception module consisting of transformer ASR encoder andNemotron-3-Diarizationspeaker encoder, a connectionist temporal classification (CTC) timestamp alignment head, andNVIDIA Nemotron-3.5 Lightning 30B-A3Blanguage backbone. The perception configuration uses a 1,280-dimensional identity connector followed by a learned projection to 2,688 dimensions. Audio features are combined with the text prompt for text generation. The model enables joint multi-token prediction (MTP), with two trained next-token prediction depths using a repeated layer and retaining the existing head. Reusing the repeated layer during inference supports up to eight speculative tokens. A dedicatedDFlash2draft model, a block-diffusion drafter based on DFlash, is also provided as an option for speculative decoding.

The data covers the 40 supported languages, with the largest share in English, as well as code-switched speech.
https://huggingface.co/nvidia/NVIDIA-Nemotron-3.5-Transcribe-30B-A4B#training-data-size-detailsTraining Data Size Details
Total examples, audio hours, text tokens, unique dataset count, partition percentages, and collection periods:
- Total multimodal tokens (non-unique): 479 billion
- Audio share of multimodal input positions: approx. 60%
- Audio tokens (non-unique): 286 billion
- Text tokens (non-unique, including responses to audio examples): 193 billion
- Audio examples (unique indexed records, estimated): 372,206,279
- Audio examples (non-unique, estimated): 1,780,012,724

The server listens on127\.0\.0\.1:8000; use\-\-hostand\-\-portto change this. The settings target an H100 with 80 GB of GPU memory; other hardware or workloads may need a different\-\-gpu\-memory\-utilization,\-\-max\-model\-len, or\-\-max\-num\-seqs. The\-\-middlewareand\-\-trust\-request\-mm\-kwargsoptions let requests opt intoword timestamps.
To change the configuration, modify the command as follows:
ConfigurationChangeEight GPUs: one data-parallel engine per GPU, with expert parallelism (TP=1, DP=8, EP=8)Add\-\-data\-parallel\-size 8 \-\-api\-server\-count 8 \-\-enable\-expert\-parallel \-\-disable\-custom\-all\-reduceMTP with two proposed tokens (MTP2)Set"num\_speculative\_tokens":2No speculative decodingRemove\-\-speculative\-config
https://huggingface.co/nvidia/NVIDIA-Nemotron-3.5-Transcribe-30B-A4B#speculative-decodingSpeculative Decoding
Speculative decoding proposes several tokens at once and verifies them with the main model. The checkpoint contains two MTP depths implemented with a repeated layer. MTP8 reuses that layer to propose eight tokens; it does not require eight distinct trained MTP layers.
The best mode depends on the GPU and the workload. Approximate throughput for batched English ASR onone NVIDIA H100 80 GB, using tuned serving settings:
Decoding modeApproximate BF16 RTFxMTP offNot measuredMTP2410MTP8270DFlash2 K=7340DFlash2 K=15260 RTFx is total audio duration divided by processing time: 340 RTFx means about 340 seconds of audio processed per second under batch load. These are rough throughput estimates, excluding server startup, for the English Open ASR and Monsoon datasets with reasoning disabled. Throughput depends on recording length, output length, batch size, and GPU memory settings; it is not a single-request latency estimate.
Keep ReplaySSM (\-\-use\-replayssm \-\-mamba\-backend flashinfer \-\-mamba\-cache\-mode none) and prefix caching disabled, as in the command above. The first requests after startup are slower while kernels are compiled and warmed up.
DFlash2 draft modelAs an alternative to MTP, the separate draft modelnvidia/NVIDIA\-Nemotron\-3\.5\-Transcribe\-30B\-A4B\-DFlash2proposes up to 15 tokens at once with vLLM’sdflashmethod. DFlash2 and MTP are alternatives and are not combined. K=7 is the recommended starting point; K=15 was slower on the tested ASR workload.
vLLM 0.32.0 needs a small fix to its DFlash2 implementation; without it, the server can fail when requests finish. Apply it once to the environment:
python - <<'EOF_PATCH'
from pathlib import Path
import vllm
path = Path(vllm.__file__).parent / "model_executor/models/qwen3_dflash2.py"
source = path.read_text()
if "safe_anchor_token_ids" not in source:
old = " successors = successor_table[candidate_ids]\n"
anchor = " anchor_token_ids[:, None, None].expand(-1, 1, top_k),"
assert source.count(old) == 1 and source.count(anchor) == 1, "unexpected vLLM version"
source = source.replace(old, (
" safe_anchor_token_ids = anchor_token_ids.clamp(\n"
" min=0, max=predecessor_table.shape[0] - 1\n"
" )\n" + old
)).replace(anchor, " safe_anchor_token_ids[:, None, None].expand(-1, 1, top_k),")
path.write_text(source)
EOF_PATCH
The fix modifies vLLM source code (Copyright contributors to the vLLM project), which is licensed under the Apache License, Version 2.0, not under OpenMDW-1.1; seeTHIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md.
Then start the server with the following options instead of\-\-speculative\-configand\-\-middlewarefrom the command above. Word timestamps are not available with DFlash2, so the CTC alignment is disabled:
--speculative-config '{"method":"dflash","num_speculative_tokens":7,"model":"nvidia/NVIDIA-Nemotron-3.5-Transcribe-30B-A4B-DFlash2"}' \
--hf-overrides '{"ctc_timestamps":{"enabled":false}}'
vLLM runs DFlash2 only on its V2 model runner, so also rununset VLLM\_USE\_V2\_MODEL\_RUNNERbefore starting the server.

The response contains a top-levelctc\_timestampsobject:
words: word text, start and end times in seconds relative to the input audio, and the transcript’s speaker tag.diarization: speaker activity segments derived from the audio.speaker\_tag\_to\_diarization\_speaker: the mapping between transcript tags and diarization speakers.error:nullon success, or an alignment failure reason. Check this field before using the timestamps.
Timestamp requests accept one audio recording,stream=false, andn=1. Keepskip\_special\_tokens=falseand ask for speaker tags when speaker attribution is needed. A transcript without speaker tags is aligned as a single speaker. Use thediarizationsegments, rather than word timestamps, when evaluating diarization.

https://huggingface.co/nvidia/NVIDIA-Nemotron-3.5-Transcribe-30B-A4B#generation-loop-guardrailGeneration-Loop Guardrail
In rare cases, the model can fail to terminate generation and fall into a loop. In these cases, we recommend applying the following function once to the final decoded output, before scoring or returning it:
import re
CHAR_RUN = re.compile(r"(.)\1{20,}", re.DOTALL)
BLOCK_RUN = re.compile(r"(.{1,4096}?)\1{19,}", re.DOTALL)
def cleanup_generation_loops(text: str) -> str:
# Collapse a character repeated ≥21 times to one copy.
text = CHAR_RUN.sub(lambda m: m.group(1), text)
# Collapse an exact 1–4096-character block repeated ≥20 times.
return BLOCK_RUN.sub(lambda m: m.group(1), text)
The reported transcription, translation, and language identification results apply this guardrail. Results generated with reasoning (audio understanding, spoken instructions, and text reasoning) are reported without it: in long answers, it mostly matches legitimate formatting such as Markdown table rules.
This function is adapted from theQwen3-ASR repetition fix(Copyright 2026 The Alibaba Qwen team), with support for repeated blocks of up to 4,096 characters. It is licensed under the Apache License, Version 2.0, not under OpenMDW-1.1; seeTHIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md.
https://huggingface.co/nvidia/NVIDIA-Nemotron-3.5-Transcribe-30B-A4B#when-to-use-a-system-promptWhen to Use a System Prompt
Rule of thumb:leave it empty for transcription, translation, and language ID; add a short system message for a reusable assistant role or answer format. Keep recording-specific vocabulary, questions, and choices in the user message. Empty system prompt meansomit the system message.
Reasoning does not require a system prompt; for GPQA, MMLU, and MMLU-Pro, the system prompt only specifies the answer format. For benchmark reproduction, preserve the prepared user text whenever the benchmark supplies its own instructions, even when the request is entirely spoken. The exact benchmark prompts and exceptions are listed below.

https://huggingface.co/nvidia/NVIDIA-Nemotron-3.5-Transcribe-30B-A4B#audio-multiple-choice-with-option-textAudio Multiple Choice with Option Text
Applies to: MMAU — official full test; MMAR — speech subset; MMAU-Pro — non-music, closed-form questions.
Listen to the provided audio and select the single best answer to the multiple-choice question.
Your final answer must be the complete text of exactly one option, copied verbatim from the supplied choices. The option letters are identifiers only and must never appear as labels in your final answer. If you select option C, output the text after C., not the letter C. Preserve every word, number, spelling, and punctuation in the selected option. Do not paraphrase, shorten, correct, translate, or add to it. Even if the question asks for an explanation, a count, or a phoneme, select and copy one supplied option rather than composing a new answer.
Output only the selected option text. Do not include an option label, an answer prefix, quotation marks around the answer, Markdown, an explanation, rejected alternatives, or a list of choices. If an option itself begins with the word A or contains quotation marks, preserve them as part of its text.
Example: with options A. Heavy rain, B. Snowfall, C. Sunny day, D. Windy, selecting A requires the final answer Heavy rain. The answers A and A. Heavy rain are invalid output formats.
Before giving your final answer, check that it is an exact copy of one supplied option with its option label removed. If uncertain, choose the most likely option and copy its text. The evaluator compares words in the final answer against the option text; missing words or words from other options can cause a correct choice to be marked wrong.

Applies to: AIR-Bench — foundation, speech tasks.
Use the provided audio as evidence to answer the user's multiple-choice question. Select the single best supplied option. Output exactly one uppercase option letter: A, B, C, or D. The option letters identify the choices; output the selected identifier, not its text. Example: if option C is correct, the complete final answer is C. The example demonstrates syntax only. Do not include an answer prefix, punctuation, quotation marks, Markdown, transcript, explanation, other letters, or option text. Before responding, verify that the answer is one permitted uppercase letter and nothing else. If uncertain, select the most likely listed option.

FieldResponseParticipation considerations from adversely impacted groups[protected classes](https://calcivilrights.ca.gov/disputeresolution/protected-characteristics/)in model design and testing:None\.Measures taken to mitigate unwanted bias:The recipe diversifies prompts, reweights selected under\-sampled data sources, retains multiple language/task families, and boosts selected multi\-speaker sources\. These are coverage and sampling measures\. Proposed deployment measures include representative subgroup testing and monitoring of correction rates\.Bias Metric:None\.Which characteristic \(feature\) show\(s\) the greatest difference in performance?Not established\. Corpus\-level outcomes vary, but the evaluated corpora differ in recording conditions, language, duration, and scoring\.Which feature\(s\) have the worst performance overall?No ranked protected\-group or demographic\-feature assessment is available\. The reviewed evaluations report benchmark\- and language\-specific performance, but they do not isolate demographic features\.If using internal data, description of methods implemented in data acquisition or processing, if any, to address the prevalence of identifiable biases in the training, testing, and validation data:To bolster coverage and sampling choices, the training recipe uses explicit mixture weights across task and language sources, includes multiple multilingual and multi\-speaker datasets, and includes a balanced language\-identification component spanning 48 language labels, distinct from the 40\-language core speech coverage described in the overview\.Tools used to assess statistical imbalances and highlight patterns that may introduce bias into AI models:Indexed\-sampler progress and answer\-token\-mass reports were used to inspect mixture exposure, and benchmark scorers report language\- and subset\-level errors\.Tools used to assess statistical imbalances and highlight patterns that may introduce bias into AI models:The reviewed inventory does not establish proportional coverage across age, gender, ethnicity, disability, dialect, accent, or recording environment\. These attributes must not be inferred from voices to fill that gap\. Instead, obtain appropriate evaluation data and report subgroup sizes, uncertainty estimates, and error types explicitly\. Before making support claims, test for overlapping speech, distant microphones, code\-switching, and underrepresented languages\. Where transcription errors can disadvantage users, retain human correction paths\.

FieldResponseIntended Task/Domain:Speech transcription and translation, contextual and speaker\-attributed transcription, rich transcription, language identification, and audio/text question answering\.Model Type:Speech/audio encoder with speaker\-aware perception, projection to a mixture\-of\-experts autoregressive language model, and joint MTP\.Intended Users:Developers and researchers building speech and audio applications with application\-specific evaluation and review\.Output:Generated text, optionally containing task\-specific speaker/event tags or PII annotations\. When timestamp capture is enabled in vLLM, the response also includes[word timestamps, diarization segments, and a mapping between transcript speaker tags and diarization speakers](https://huggingface.co/nvidia/NVIDIA-Nemotron-3.5-Transcribe-30B-A4B#word-timestamps-and-speaker-diarization)\. Conversation history must be supplied by the application; persistent memory is not established by this recipe\.Tools evaluating synthetic data and authenticityThe pipeline includes transcript classification, annotation/span checks, multiple\-model\-agreement based high quality filtering metrics, and judge based filtering for preference transcription instruction answers\.Describe how the model works:The model preprocesses 16\-kHz audio and encodes it into features\. The configured speaker\-aware encoder contributes speaker information\. Features pass through the perception projection and are combined with the text prompt\. The language backbone predicts output text autoregressively\. When requested, the bundled CTC heads align the generated transcript to the audio, and the speaker encoder supplies diarization segments\. Two trained MTP depths supply auxiliary training objectives, and the repeated layer can be reused for speculative decoding\.List the groups \(or group characteristics\) for which this was tested to produce comparable outcomes:Not ApplicableTechnical Limitations & Mitigation:Errors include substitutions, deletions, repetitions, hallucinated speech, incorrect language choice, and speaker attribution errors\. Targeted testing is recommended for long recordings, overlapping speakers, noise, names, code\-switching, and misleading context\. Performance on text\-only tasks, without audio input, is not as good as on audio tasks: text\-only reasoning and instruction following were not a primary training objective, and the model scores below its base language model on text\-only benchmarks\. Audio understanding, reasoning, and spoken instruction following were evaluated only in English and may not work reliably in other languages\.Verified to meet prescribed NVIDIA quality standards:Yes\.Performance Metrics:The evaluation plan covers WER/CER and corpus\-specific variants; context\-biasing WER, named\-entity WER, named\-entity false\-negative rate, and entity F1; multi\-speaker cpWER/tcpWER; translation BLEU/spBLEU/COMET; language\-identification accuracy; word\-level timestamp accuracy; instruction\-following scores; benchmark\-specific hallucination and event metrics; and serving latency/throughput\.Potential Known Risks:The model may misrepresent a recording and generate a plausible transcript or answer\. Speaker tags may not always attribute statements to the correct person\.When context is supplied, it can influence the output toward incorrect or irrelevant terms, and the model's robustness to misleading context has not been fully established across all supported settings\. Any explanations the model generates should not be taken as verified causal accounts of the model's prediction\.
The model was optimized explicitly for instruction following and as such is more susceptible to prompt injection and jailbreaking in various forms as a result of its instruction tuning\. This means that the model should be paired with additional rails or system filtering to limit exposure to instructions from malicious sources \-\- either directly or indirectly by retrieval \(e\.g\. via visiting a website\) \-\- as they may yield outputs that can lead to harmful, system\-level outcomes up to and including remote code execution in agentic systems when effective security controls including guardrails are not in place\. The model may generate answers that may be inaccurate, omit key information, include irrelevant or redundant text, or produce socially unacceptable or undesirable text, even if the prompt itself does not include anything explicitly offensive\.
