From a 5lb block of aluminum to flight hardware. On the DMG Mori DMU 40, we take a raw block down to a precision aerospace part in two setups.
First, a 5-axis dovetail fixture holds it for 4-axis simultaneous roughing, swarf cutting to 50-micron profile tolerance, and 3D surfacing, finishing every outer surface and critical datum in one clamping.
Then we flip into a custom in-house fixture and hollow the core to 1mm walls with adaptive roughing, plunge finishing, and long-reach tooling, finished off with 5-axis deburring. Real hardware, built in-house, headed to orbit.
