Explosion!! Qwen @Alibaba_Qwen Member Calls Out Former Qwen Lead Online
Yesterday, a person claiming to be the former RL lead of the Qwen team and a member of 01ai, currently serving as Head of LLM Training at @Fundamental LLM—@TianhangZhuzth—was publicly called out by Qwen team researcher @ChujieZheng.
He stated that Tianhang Zhu seems to have left the Qwen team after the first-generation Qwen model. At that time, the Qwen team did not have a “Head of Reinforcement Learning” role.
I then checked Tianhang Zhu’s LinkedIn, and in his pinned resume, I found that he referred to himself as “Senior Research Scientist for Qwen,” not “Head of Reinforcement Learning.”
Tianhang left the Qwen team in May 2024 and joined @01AI_Yi (01万物) as RL lead in June 2024.
In September 2024, the Qwen2.5 series was released, which went viral in the global open-source community. The Qwen series has accumulated over 40 million downloads and 78,000 derivative models. At one point, the top 10 models on Hugging Face were all fine-tuned versions of Qwen2.5.
This aligns with my memory—I recall Qwen only set up a dedicated RL team starting from version 2.5 (please correct me if I’m wrong).
I understand that sometimes you have to fabricate or exaggerate your experience/background for certain reasons, but you’d better make sure there are no holes in your story the moment you claim it :)
Chujie Zheng (@ChujieZheng): This guy seems to have left our team after the first-gen Qwen model. Our team also did not have a “head of RL” role at that time.
