He joined The Verge in 2019 after nearly two years at Techmeme\. Google is seemingly working on an item tracker that might compete with Apple’s AirTag\.*9to5Google*obtained[an image](https://9to5google.com/2026/07/31/this-is-the-google-pixel-tag/)of something called a “Google Pixel Tag” that has a small oval shape\. The publication also linked to[a Slovenian store listing](https://www.bigpartner.si/pametni-sledilnik-google-pixel-tag-fog-light-5000311450)about the Pixel Tag that describes the gadget as an item tracker with a speaker that uses Google’s “Find My Device” network \(which is[now called Find Hub](https://www.theverge.com/news/672352/you-can-now-find-googles-find-hub)\)\. The Pixel Tag is popping up shortly ahead of Google’s planned hardware launch event for August 12th\. Google has already shown off teases of[the Pixel 11 lineup](https://www.theverge.com/tech/966120/google-pixel-11-camera-bar-teaser)for the event, and leaks have[also appeared](https://www.theverge.com/tech/973249/pixel-11-pro-fold-buds-watch-leaks-google-launch-event)for a new foldable, smartwatch, and earbuds\. Earlier this month,*9to5Google*[noted that](https://9to5google.com/2026/07/13/this-might-be-the-pixel-11-in-three-colors-gallery/)early Pixel 11 listings mentioned a Google Pixel Tag but pointed out that “no such tracker exists right now\.” Here’s a machine translation of the Pixel Tag’s description from the Slovenian listing: > The Google Pixel Tag smart tracker helps you quickly and reliably locate your lost items using the secure “Find My Device” network\. Never waste time searching for your keys, wallet or luggage again\. Google Pixel Tag is a compact, lightweight and durable smart tracker that attaches discreetly to your most important items\. Using Google’s extensive and secure “Find My Device” network, you can always check the exact location of your belongings via your smartphone\. The tracker is equipped with a loud speaker for easy nearby search and is designed with your privacy and personal data in mind\. Google didn’t immediately reply to a request for comment\. **Follow topics and authors**from this story to see more like this in your personalized homepage feed and to receive email updates\. - Jay Peters ## The Verge Daily A free daily digest of the news that matters most\.
