On Wednesday, the company aired <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_QJ4BYIGME">a new Nintendo Direct</a>, which spotlighted Switch 2 games mostly “launching this winter” over the course of about 45 minutes.</p> <p class="wp-block-paragraph">The show wasn’t a blockbuster one, but it had a few notable announcements. A new 2D <em>Metroid</em> game, <em><a href="https://www.theverge.com/games/992053/the-switch-2-is-getting-a-2d-metroid-called-ravenous">Metroid Ravenous</a></em>, launches in January. The <em>Kirby</em> franchise is getting a new game, <em><a href="https://www.theverge.com/games/992174/a-whole-new-world">Kirby and the World Beyond</a></em>, sometime in spring 2027. A <a href="https://www.theverge.com/games/992092/pikmin-4-is-getting-a-nintendo-switch-2-edition">Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of <em>Pikmin 4</em></a> releases in November. And <a href="https://www.theverge.com/games/992156/persona-6-is-coming-to-the-switch-2"><em>Persona 6</em> will be coming to the Switch 2</a>, though that game still doesn’t have a release date.</p> <p class="wp-block-paragraph">This year’s other big releases include <em>Fire Emblem: Fortune&#8217;s Weave</em> on September 17th and <em>Nintendo Switch Sports Resort</em> on October 22nd. For 2027, major new entries in the <em>Pokémon</em> and <em>Xenoblade</em> franchises are already on the calendar, but they don’t have specific dates yet.</p> <p class="wp-block-paragraph">Follow our coverage of the September 2026 Nintendo Direct right here.
