How to monetize your Grok Bot templates on X

X just launched the new Grok @Bot Template Rewards Pilot Program

It pays out builders whose Grok Bot templates actually get used by people

So now you can literally build useful templates, share them on X, and get rewarded for it

Here’s the problem: there aren’t that many useful templates out there

And this program is designed to fix - incentivize people to build more, and build better

Right now it’s invite-only pilot, open to U.S. users who have access to X money

1. What are Grok Bot templates?

Grok Bot is one of the best agentic platforms out there, powered by the latest Grok models

So, a template is a blueprint of a bot that you can share with others through a link

A template includes:

• Bot instructions (identity, description)

• Skills - processes the bot can repeat

• Routines schedule (automated routine tasks on a set schedule)

• Selected memories (specific chosen memory)

• First-party plugins and third-party service integrations like Gmail, Slack, GitHub, etc.

Basically you get the blueprint, and on top of that version you build whatever you need

And it actually improves your user experience by making the final output result significantly better

After running some analysis on existing templates, I realized the real value usually comes down to:

1. Persistence

Repetitive ongoing work that can be automated and set to run on a schedule automatically

2. Connected tools

Plugins and third-party service integrations plugged in to make the bot truly automated

3. Repeated context

Accumulated context that helps the bot work in a truly automated way, using the right context from step one to run in the background

4. Background execution

Working in the background with zero human involvement, running a continuous loop of steps toward a specific output result

5. Accumulated memory

Built-up memory of edits, assigned tasks, completed tasks, improvements, and everything the bot has absorbed - all of it feeding back into better efficiency and results over time

So really, a useful template is one where switching back to a regular Grok chat would make your workflow noticeably worse

How to create a template?

• Open your bot in Grok Bot

• Hit “Share” in the top right corner, or type in the chat “Create a template of yourself that I can share with somebody else”

• Grok Bot will automatically prepare an unpublished draft from your bot’s configuration (it tries to include what others need and exclude your personal data)

• Review what’s included: instructions, memories, skills, routines, plugins

• Before publishing - remove API keys, internal URLs, client data, anything confidential

• Hit Publish → you get a link

• Share it on X, and then earn a reward (add a paid partnership tag to every tweet with a link to your bot)

Overall, creating one isn’t hard, but it’s important to understand that you need to build a bot that’s actually good, one that without it, a person would have to rebuild everything from scratch

If your bot is just a single prompt in Grok Bot, it doesn’t really solve anything, and barely anyone is going to use it

Also, if you’re building a complex bot, it’s important to include setup instructions, because some dependencies won’t transfer with the template - things like MCP servers, custom scripts, etc.

So, when you’re creating it and you hit Share, review the draft and check it thoroughly, and also remove any confidential information

How to promote your own template?

Distribution is one of the most important parts, even if your bot is actually useful

So, I’ll share a few tips and formats you can use:

• Find the core pain point your template solves, and use that in your content

• Show the final output - as a screen recording or result and share it on X

• Write detailed articles where you use your template as part of a workflow

• Build setup instructions into the bot itself, and share that in your content

• Write a detailed review article on the bot - setup after installation, connecting plugins step by step, and a demo of it actually working

Obviously, the best distribution channel here is X. It’s mandatory for the rewards program

From the official Rewards program requirements, there are also a few important points:

• Your post on X with the template link must stay public and unedited for at least 30 days after the period you received your reward for

• You must add the X paid partnership label to every post promoting an eligible template

• The template is shared through a link in the format x.ai/bot/ + a 21-character token

You can also use the Grok Bot marketplace for additional promotion that’s separate from the Rewards Program

Examples of useful templates that are already working

I found a few interesting examples, and also put together the most popular template categories so you get a sense of what kind of bots you can build

Interesting examples:

One of the most interesting examples is a bot created just 10 hours ago by @SawyerMerritt, right after the new Rewards Program was announced

It’s a Grok Bot Tutorial Template - 20 lessons that walk the user step by step through every Grok Bot feature, with real exercises and tips

His tweet organically pulled over 2,500 likes in the last 10 hours, so it genuinely went viral

Why this is an interesting example:

It’s different from most templates because it’s not a tool, it’s an educational template. The bot itself is the tutor that teaches the user how to use Grok Bot.** It’s a smart approach for a few reasons:**

• Audience magnitude: every new Grok Bot user is a potential user of this template, and right now Grok Bot is growing at 24% week over week in users as of mid-September

• Covers ALL features - from basic chat to purchases, and closes the full cycle in 20 lessons

• Retention play: educational content keeps the user around longer, and that’s likely one of the key factors the rewards program looks at

• Self-replicating: lesson 15 is “Sharing and templates”, meaning the bot teaches users how to create their own templates

What this actually shows us is that you don’t have to build a complex automation bot

You just need to solve a problem that actually hurts for the potential audience, and that can end up with more users than any specialized tool

From the other examples, I also want to highlight:

• Recruiting Coordinator (by Tommy Hansen) – schedules interview loops, preps interviewers, and pushes on what needs to be fixed

• Engineer Bot (by Lingxi Li) - a hands-off engineering supervisor. Takes tasks, spins up cloud agents, monitors PRs every 30 minutes, and only asks you to merge

• Import Bot (by Shub Gaur) – migrates your setup from Claude Cowork, Codex, ChatGPT, OpenClaw, Hermes into Grok Bot, and creates the matching expert bots or adds to the ones you already have

Though, for example, these might not be the most popular topics, but they’re useful

For instance, @SawyerMerritt also created a Home Robots template that lets you control multiple home robots from a single chat and already got his first $500 from the rewards program

And that also went viral at 2,000+ likes, because a robot vacuum is something almost everyone uses at home for cleaning

So, find an idea for bot you’d want to build, build it, turn it into a template, and promote it on X

The terms of the Grok @Bot template rewards pilot program

Right now the template rewards program is invite-only pilot, and you need to meet the eligibility requirements

Specifically:

• 18+ years old

• Located in the U.S., in a state where X Money is supported

• Have a Grok Bot account and an X account in good standing

• Verified email on your Grok Bot account

• Subscribed to X Premium or Premium Business

• Active X Money account that can receive payments

• Identity verification completed

• Not an employee of X, SpaceXAI, Cursor, SpaceX, or Tesla

• Not a Prohibited Person (OFAC sanctions, etc.)

The pilot is expected to run for about 2 months, but they can extend, pause, or shut down the program at any time

In practice, X decides how much to pay you, entirely at their own discretion, but obviously based on certain factors

There’s no fully officially confirmed information, but certain factors have been mentioned:

• Information about eligible templates and their usage by other Grok Bot users

• Your activity in the program

• User base (how many different people are using your template)

• Retention (how often those users come back)

So what actually counts is real usage of your template and the interest around it, its retention

And obviously your own usage or accounts associated with you don’t count (makes total sense)

Also, don’t forget to use the X paid partnership label when promoting eligible templates (FTC disclosure requirement)

Basically, you need to build your own useful template that Grok Bot users will actually use

And yeah, you’re early, Grok Bot is growing fast, and finding something useful to build won’t be as hard as it seems

How to get access to the program (invite-only pilot)

There’s no official info on how to get an invite, but here’s what I think

A few things likely matter:

• Have you actually built Grok Bot Templates and shared them on X?

• Was there real activity (actual users, retention)?

• Did it go viral on X?

The people who already got a pilot invite? They’d already built a template and shared it on X before the program even launched

My take: if you build a Grok Bot Template right now that actually hits with the X audience, you’ve got a real chance at getting an invite. As long as you meet the eligibility requirements

All that’s left - find the idea, build it, promote it with everything you’ve got

I genuinely believe Grok Bot is just getting started. Programs like this Rewards Program will push the user experience way further, which means more users coming in

The growth potential here is massive. So learning how to build bots for your own use - and on top of that, making templates to earn rewards is definitely worth your time
