He can create a complete meeting note in less than ten seconds. Most people's first move when they get Obsidian is to create a bunch of complex folders, then spend hours organizing and categorizing, only to end up with a mess that grows worse over time until they give up. Damn, that's exactly what I was doing. Steph Ango says a good note-taking system should embrace chaos and laziness. You shouldn't organize for the sake of organizing. Instead, quickly capture ideas first, and structure will naturally emerge through subsequent connections. His method is simple: almost every note starts with a template that automatically fills in all the necessary metadata—date, people, topic, location, rating. These properties aren't static tags; they are a database that can be calculated, filtered, and used to generate any view. You don't need to put meeting notes into a meeting folder; just give them a meeting property, and the system will automatically compile all meetings into a dynamic table sorted by date and person. Pair that with a few global hotkeys—new note, insert template, open daily note, insert internal link—and you never need to touch the mouse. Many people spend hundreds of hours fiddling with plugins and themes but never actually build a sustainable note-taking habit. High-friction systems will inevitably be abandoned; only low-friction systems can generate compound knowledge. Years later, your vault won't become a pile of dead files—it will become a living external brain, letting you instantly pull up all meetings related to a person, all books you've rated 7 or above, and everything that ever happened in a certain city.
