Summary

Hermes, an AI web reading agent, has been updated to be up to 60x faster and 49x cheaper, improving efficiency for business use cases like competitor scans and content trend watching.

Hermes just got up to 60x faster at reading the web. And 49x cheaper. I run Hermes across 5 businesses. Research was always the bottleneck. Morning briefs, client competitor scans, viral app ideas, content trend watches. All of that lives or dies on how fast your agent can read the web without burning time and tokens. I wrote the full breakdown of my setup last week. Profiles, iMessage, background agents, how I run multiple businesses on it. This update sits on top of all of that. If agents are core to how you work, read the full setup below.

Sonnet 5 just dropped and I already changed my default model for Hermes.

Anthropic shipped it today. Early take after swapping it across my stack: big jump over Sonnet 4.6 on most agent work, gets close to Opus 4.8 on the hard stuff, and costs a fraction of Opus. Faster too.

Here is how I am routing it across my setup:

→ Hermes: new default for daily agent work across my 5 businesses → Claude Code: default model for client builds at the agency → Opus 4.8: only when a task is genuinely complex → Long-running jobs: Sonnet 5 first, escalate only if it stalls

Not swapping everything blindly. But for daily Hermes work, this is the first Sonnet release that felt like a real default upgrade.

Worth testing on your stack today if agents are core to how you work.
