Cloudflare just released a new feature, but I took a look at the pricing and couldn’t help but laugh.
They launched a Web Search API for AI, bundling Ceramic, Linkup, and Exa all together. The key point is: Other middlemen exist to pocket the spread.
Cloudflare as middleman: “I’ll give it to you at the original price, without adding a single cent in fees—even if you want to use your own key, that’s fine.”
A lot of people are puzzled: What’s in it for them? It’s that you no longer have to charge up credit cards for three different companies; it’s that when you’re writing an Agent, you can casually drop in one line http://env.AI.websearch; it’s that all your AI traffic has to flow through their Gateway.
On the surface, it’s about building an API, but underneath, it’s devouring the entire Agent infrastructure ecosystem. When you make a product so indispensable that “you can’t leave me, even if I give it away for free today,” that’s what real dimensionality reduction attack looks like.
