Hey everyone, I found an awesome project!
Turn your idle Android phone into an SMS gateway. Just call the HTTP API to send and receive texts — no more wasting money on Twilio or other SMS platforms!
The project is called httpSMS, GitHub: NdoleStudio/httpsms
Simply install an APK on your phone (even an old one works), hit the API, and your phone will send SMS for you. Incoming texts can be pushed to you in real time via webhook.
Most useful scenarios:
- Verification codes, system alerts, marketing notifications
- When you can’t get a good virtual number abroad
- When you want to save money but still need reliable delivery
It’s open source, free, supports self-hosting via Docker, end-to-end encrypted, and privacy-safe. Just a few lines of code to call it, and the docs are solid.
