i decided for the month of September i was going to try and take X seriously.
the goal was simple: qualify for X’s Original Content Rewards program without having to post engagement slop, and more importantly, find my niche along the way.
the first milestone: hit 500 verified followers. (spoiler: hit that a week before the month ended)
(numbers to follow next)
here are the numbers for September:
- 877K impressions
- 10.5K engagements
- 2.1K likes
- 167 reposts
- 4.9K bookmarks
(learnings next)
what i learned along the way:
1/ post more. tbh i hate the idea of posting literally whatever comes to your head, but unfortunately, almost all of my best performing posts were the spontaneous ones. the Notion one was written in the Trader Joe’s parking lot.
2/ posting more doesn’t mean posting more slop. just posting more well-crafted and well-intentioned posts that actually add value to the timeline.
3/ i’m seeing more and more founders posting on X. it’s not just @finkd and @alexandr_wang, but @denk_tweets, @samdblond, @rahulvohra are all great examples of this.
4/ pictures help, every time.
5/ i almost pulled the plug on the Muse at Work launch post cause i didn’t want it to just be engagement slop. truthfully, it sometimes feels like it but i genuinely use Muse for so much of my work, i hope it provides value to people like it does for me. and, the replies in the thread proved me wrong. not to mention the reposts from @mattshumer_ and @alexandr_wang helped a ton.
6/ my biggest rec: turn on post notifications for a few creators you respect. you can learn a lot from their habits and patterns - consistent posting in their niche.
hope this helped.
goal for October: 500K Verified Home Timeline impressions! 2/3rds to go.
for the first time since getting an account in 2016(?), i just cancelled Spotify.
and honestly, it wasn’t a hard decision once i looked at what i was actually paying for.
weirdly enough, i don’t really listen to music anymore.
the only reason i kept the subscription was for audiobooks. but 15 hours a month doesn’t cover my usage, and paying extra to top up hours started feeling ridiculous.
recently found Hoopla; free audiobooks with my library card. and it’s free!
so Spotify’s gone. and the plan now is to actually try and be consistent about listening to podcasts. and it seems like Apple Podcasts has everything I need, plus it’s free.
current rotation is embarrassingly small: @AcquiredFM, @DialecticPod, and @davidsenra. they’re great, just need more!
so what are you listening to? what should i add to the rotation?
