Do this once Fable 5 is back tomorrow.
Don’t switch your whole stack on day one.
Anthropic is bringing Fable 5 back with stronger safety filters. If a request gets blocked, you get a notice and it falls back to Opus 4.8.
The catch: those filters also block more harmless requests. Some everyday coding and debugging may get flagged for now. That’s the “nerf.” The diagram shows why. Bigger safety margin = more normal work gets stopped.
What I’d do:
→ Don’t move everything to Fable 5 on day one → Expect some coding to fall back to Opus 4.8 for now → Keep a backup model (Sonnet 5 daily, Opus 4.8 for hard work) → Test your real workflows before you rebuild your stack
Wait one day. See how the filters feel on your real work before you switch back.

@FinanceYF5: Fable 5 is back, but the threshold is higher. Anthropic says it updated network security protections after communicating with the US government. In the short term, more normal programming requests will be falsely blocked. Once triggered, it will directly switch to Opus 4.8 replies. Anthropic updated the network security protection of Fable 5, causing more normal programming requests to be falsely blocked, and automatically switching to Opus 4.8 replies. The biochemistry classifier remains strict. The promotion lasts until 7/7.
I ran Fable 5 for half day and the guardrails are the real story
Anthropic's Fable 5 AI model shows impressive reasoning and context digestion but suffers from high latency, cost, and silent fallback to Opus 4.8 for certain domains, which can disrupt workflows.
