Samsung is selling certified renewed Galaxy phones on Amazon for the first time, starting at $489 for the Galaxy S24 FE, but the article argues cheaper refurbished options exist elsewhere like Back Market.

I recently bought a used Galaxy phone, and now Samsung is leaning into that market on Amazon after[raising prices on its newest phones](https://www.theverge.com/tech/1003328/samsung-s26-price-hikes-us)\. Its[certified renewed](https://news.samsung.com/us/samsung-galaxy-first-certified-re-newed-now-available-amazon/)phones are[available on Amazon](https://click.linksynergy.com/deeplink?id=nOD/rLJHOac&mid=47773&murl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.samsung.com%2Fus%2Fsmartphones%2Fcertified-re-newed-phones%2F%23products)for the first time, with a new battery and a one\-year warranty\. They currently start at[$489 for the Galaxy S24 FE](https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galaxy-Certified-Renewed-Graphite/dp/B0H4NKM455/?tag=theverge02-20)with 128GB of storage, significantly less than its $649 launch price, or $699 for the current\-gen S26 FE\.
I got that exact same phone in August after cracking the screen on my Nothing CMF Phone 1\. But my used 128GB Galaxy S24 FE cost $329 on Back Market, over $100 less than the certified renewed one Samsung is offering\. I’ve gone with preowned phones a couple of times now since I don’t use my phone for anything that justifies[paying hundreds more for a new one](https://www.theverge.com/gadgets/993005/smartphone-price-hikes-apple-iphone-18-pro)\. I’d rather not go into debt for a new phone with a buy\-now\-pay\-later program, either, or lease\-to\-own setups like Apple’s[Upgrade program](https://www.theverge.com/tech/971220/apple-upgrade-program-iphone-mac-ipad-lease-launch)\.
My used S24 FE looks new, still has five more years of OS updates, and has been working great so far\. These aren’t the only ways to get a used phone without looking around on Facebook Marketplace or eBay either;[Apple](https://www.apple.com/shop/refurbished/iphone)and[Google](https://www.anrdoezrs.net/links/101881227/type/dlg/https://store.google.com/magazine/refurbished_devices?hl=en-US)offer used phones on their online stores at a discount, for example\.
Samsung’s perks for its certified renewed phones are nice, especially the new battery, but you can find those elsewhere, too\. My S24 FE came with Back Market’s[one\-year warranty](https://www.awin1.com/cread.php?awinmid=18275&awinaffid=173843&ued=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.backmarket.com%2Fen-us%2Flegal%2Fwarranty)\. It didn’t come with a new battery, but I haven’t had trouble getting through a couple of days on a single charge\. Some third\-party refurbished phones come with new batteries installed, but you can also do a[DIY battery replacement](https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Samsung+Galaxy+S24+Battery+Replacement/175612)\. Even if I had paid to have my phone’s battery professionally replaced, it would still have cost less in total than Samsung’s $489 price for the same pre\-owned phone\.

The Samsung Galaxy S26 FE is reviewed as a capable smartphone with good camera and video performance, but its high price and incremental upgrades make it a poor value compared to alternatives.
The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra is now available for $919.99 on Amazon Prime Day, marking a $180 discount on the recent flagship phone with privacy display and upgraded cameras.
Samsung announces Galaxy A27 at $349.99, $50 more than the A26, featuring downgraded selfie and ultrawide cameras and lower IP rating, but upgraded to Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chipset.
Apple is selling refurbished MacBook Neo laptops with a $100 discount, starting at $599, and the article also highlights other tech deals like a Google charger and a Razer controller.
The Samsung Galaxy S26 FE is a modest update with last year's hardware and software features from earlier flagships, coming with a price increase due to market conditions.
