/swarm multi-agent fan-out disabled — what it is
One-sentence explanation
/swarm is a multi-agent parallel fan-out pattern in the Claude Code ecosystem: one lead agent breaks a task into pieces, dispatches them to multiple sub-agents to execute concurrently, and finally aggregates the results.
“Disabled” means Claude Code has turned off this unrestricted fan-out behavior by default in recent versions, adding multiple layers of hard limits.
Core mechanism: what fan-out is
Lead Agent ├── Sub-agent A (security review) ├── Sub-agent B (performance analysis) ← runs in parallel ├── Sub-agent C (quality check) └── Aggregation → unified report
The lead agent acts like a “team leader,” splitting large tasks into smaller tasks by module/perspective. Each sub-agent handles its piece independently, and the lead merges the results at the end. This is suited for large-scale code review, batch refactoring, multi-angle research, and similar scenarios.
Why it was disabled/limited
Root cause: runaway recursion + cost explosion.
