Summary
Anthropic benchmark shows that using a larger model (Fable) as orchestrator with cheaper models (Sonnet) as workers achieves 96% of full Fable performance at 46% cost, available now in Claude Code.

WAIT. Anthropic just proved you don’t need Fable 5 for everything. With their own benchmarks.
They tested “Fable 5 orchestrates, cheaper models execute” and the numbers are wild:
→ Fable orchestrator + Sonnet workers: 96% of full-Fable performance at 46% of the cost → On BrowseComp that’s $18.53 vs $40.56 per problem, for nearly the same accuracy → The split beat “Sonnet with a Fable advisor” on BOTH performance and cost
And you can run this in Claude Code today. Pin your subagents to cheaper models with one line of frontmatter, add a delegation policy to your CLAUDE .md, done.
The future was never the biggest model everywhere. It’s the biggest model only where judgment matters.
This is exactly what my article below is about. Fable writes the playbook once, cheaper models run it forever.
