Summary

OpenAI announced over 20 products and features at DevDay, including persistent agents, an office suite, and the Decisions API, aiming to make ChatGPT a comprehensive work operating system.

BREAKING: OpenAI announced 20+ products and features at DevDay. We've been testing the new products. Here are the five that matter most (to me): - Dots: Persistent agents inside ChatGPT that retain context and keep working over time (think OpenClaw, Grok Bots, and Muse) - Space and an office suite: A Google Drive–like place to work with your Dot, plus ChatGPT-native apps for documents, slides, and spreadsheets - Developer-built apps and discovery: Full apps inside ChatGPT—called “plugin extensions”—with a directory and automatic recommendations in conversations to help users find you. - Your ChatGPT subscription in other apps: Portable Plus and Pro usage, starting with about 15 partners. Separately, Marketplace is a catalog of approved partner software that eligible enterprise customers can purchase using part of their existing OpenAI spending commitments. - The Decisions API: Based on their Luna model, this could be the biggest of the five. It’s OpenAI’s answer to Jev, the buzzy new model that acts as a “smart if-then statement” and recently has taken over X. Plus: they're releasing Sol 6.1 (Astra, but cheap), Astra Ultrafast (Astra at a crazy 250 tokens/second), a $500 Pro plan, and a lot more. What I'm seeing OpenAI's platform play. OpenAI wants ChatGPT to become your operating system for work—documents, slides, and agents, all in one place on your computer. It also wants to let developers and startups build businesses on top of it. They've done a few takes on an app store, and because of ChatGPT-native apps I think this has the best chance of sticking. Dots. It's a familiar form factor if you're using Muse, GrokBots, OpenClaw, or Instinct. It's built right into the @ChatGPTapp sidebar and it has quickly become the main way I interact with chat. But: It's still very early, it lacks some features you might expect like the ability to text it through iMessage, and in my testing there were a lot of rough edges. It's not something you need to switch to if you like GrokBots or Muse. But it's nice that it's integrated directly into ChatGPT. If you love early products, you should try it. Otherwise I'd wait a few weeks for htem to smooth out the edges. Decisions API is sneaky big. In our testing, the Decisions API beats Jev on at least one dimension: It is multimodal, which means it accepts image input. It beat Jev on speed and accuracy on a few early tests but trailed on our broader evals. It’s being previewed today, and depending on the price, it could reshape the whole ecosystem. BREAKING:

OpenAI announced 20+ products and features at DevDay.

We’ve been testing the new products. Here are the five that matter most (to me):

  • Dots: Persistent agents inside ChatGPT that retain context and keep working over time (think OpenClaw, Grok Bots, and Muse)
  • Space and an office suite: A Google Drive–like place to work with your Dot, plus ChatGPT-native apps for documents, slides, and spreadsheets
  • Developer-built apps and discovery: Full apps inside ChatGPT—called “plugin extensions”—with a directory and automatic recommendations in conversations to help users find you.
  • Your ChatGPT subscription in other apps: Portable Plus and Pro usage, starting with about 15 partners. Separately, Marketplace is a catalog of approved partner software that eligible enterprise customers can purchase using part of their existing OpenAI spending commitments.
  • The Decisions API: Based on their Luna model, this could be the biggest of the five. It’s OpenAI’s answer to Jev, the buzzy new model that acts as a “smart if-then statement” and recently has taken over X.

Plus: they’re releasing Sol 6.1 (Astra, but cheap), Astra Ultrafast (Astra at a crazy 250 tokens/second), a $500 Pro plan, and a lot more.

What I’m seeing OpenAI’s platform play. OpenAI wants ChatGPT to become your operating system for work—documents, slides, and agents, all in one place on your computer. It also wants to let developers and startups build businesses on top of it.

They’ve done a few takes on an app store, and because of ChatGPT-native apps I think this has the best chance of sticking.

Dots. It’s a familiar form factor if you’re using Muse, GrokBots, OpenClaw, or Instinct. It’s built right into the @ChatGPTapp sidebar and it has quickly become the main way I interact with chat. But: It’s still very early, it lacks some features you might expect like the ability to text it through iMessage, and in my testing there were a lot of rough edges.

It’s not something you need to switch to if you like GrokBots or Muse. But it’s nice that it’s integrated directly into ChatGPT. If you love early products, you should try it. Otherwise I’d wait a few weeks for htem to smooth out the edges.

  35. .@OpenAI wants ChatGPT to be the place you do your work: write the document, build the spreadsheet, and hand the next task to an agent without leaving. 5 DevDay announcements: 1. Dots: Always-on agents with their own cloud computers. They keep context and work while your laptop is closed. 2. Space: A shared place for you, your team, and your Dot to work on documents, spreadsheets, and slides. You can tag your Dot in a document to get a revision inline. 3. Plugin extensions: Developers can build full apps inside ChatGPT, with a directory and planned in-chat recommendations to help people find them. 4. Portable plans: Use your Plus or Pro subscription in participating apps, starting with about 15 partners. That usage counts toward your existing plan limits. 5. Decisions API: Give it context and a fixed set of answers; it picks one. Unlike Jev, it accepts images too. It’s a preview, with pricing still unannounced. The ambition is clear. The execution is uneven: In @danshipper’s testing, Space already feels useful, while Dots has become a habit despite dropped messages and permission problems. 70. Dan Shipper Cofounder and CEO lots of bugs in this live demo. not uncommon, but it is a bit indicative of the kind of issues i was seeing in my testing
  71. Dan Shipper@danshipper Cofounder and CEO okay OpenAI launched Space—it’s a basically Notion and Google Drive rolled into the ChatGPT app. they’ve tried different approaches to this over the years (like Canvas) but this is the first one that felt like i could actually use all the time it definitely kills my agent-native document editor Proof (RIP PROOF) but worth it:every.to/vibe-check/vibe-check-openai-devday-2026 Photo from Dan Shipper’s update View on X

  74. Dan Shipper@danshipper Cofounder and CEO one of the most impt things about dots according to @sama is that it deals with tasks that would normally keep him stuck looking at his phone…so it changes his relationship with his devices Photo from Dan Shipper’s update View on X
  75. Here come the Dots
  76. Dan Shipper@danshipper Cofounder and CEO BREAKING: @OpenAI just announced Dots—always-on agents in ChatGPT I’ve been testing it for the last few days @every, here’s a quick vibe check: What you should know: - They’ll look familiar if you’ve used OpenClaw, Muse, Instinct, or Grok Bots. - Your Dot sits in the redesigned ChatGPT sidebar right below the “New chat” button - It has its own cloud computer that lets it work while your laptop is closed. You can text it any time or call it on the phone. Vibe check—the good When it’s working, it changes the way I use ChatGPT: I interact with Boo (my Dot’s name), and Boo orchestrates ChatGPT threads, reads my email, uses Slack, and more. It automatically filters incoming Slack requests and emails so I can quickly triage items without opening my inbox. When I was rescheduling a flight, Boo warned me that my new flight time would conflict with a meeting request from Slack that I hadn’t read. That’s the promise: an ongoing agent that filters what needs my attention and acts proactively on my behalf, in one long-running chat thread. Vibe check—the bad But the version I tested over the last few days was buggy and lacked some features I would expect, like iMessage support. I had frequent issues with permissions and dropped messages, and my Dot was unable to connect to its own in-app browser. The verdict During testing, I found myself reaching for my Dot over starting new Codex threads, so it has definitely become a habit despite the frustration. And during the tesitng period the team was rapidly fixing issues—so I’d expect most of this to be smoothed out over the coming days and weeks. Unless you love new things with rough edges, I’d recommend waiting a week or two to try it. OpenAI will have solved a lot of these paper cuts by then. If you’re already deep into Grok Bots, Muse, or Instinct, it’s probably not an immediate switch unless you’re also a big ChatGPT or Codex user.
