**TL;DR: The combination of quantum computers and AI will bring a leap in computing speed, an instant internet, and a technology explosion, but it may also trigger encryption failure, runaway AI, or even an existential crisis for humanity.** ## The End of Waiting Time When quantum computers and artificial intelligence combine, all tasks that require waiting will be completed instantly. Calculations that used to take weeks will finish in nanoseconds. Once quantum technology becomes a consumer-grade standard, all operations such as booting up a computer or phone, loading apps, starting projects, writing PDFs, and rendering images will happen instantaneously. Computer games will always run at frame rates far exceeding the monitor’s refresh rate. Real-time computing will finally become a reality, and players will no longer need to buy new graphics cards for better performance. Every computer task will be completed in an instant, saving users a lot of time, but it will also deprive people of the brief respite that waiting provides—those small moments of relaxation like staring at the screen while a PDF generates or sipping coffee while Windows boots up will disappear. ## How Quantum Computers Work and the Internet Revolution To intuitively understand quantum computers, imagine going to a library to find information: a classical computer reads books one after another until it finds the target; a quantum computer can read all books at once, and simultaneously read every page and every word of all books. With this speed, not only will individual computers become extremely fast, but the internet will also be completely transformed: all data will be instantly accessible, streaming movies will require no buffering, always playing at the highest quality and frame rate; online games will have zero latency; true real-time games can accommodate thousands of players and NPCs, and low-quality graphics options will disappear; any file download will complete the instant you click—this will be an era of the quantum internet. ## The Dark Side of the Quantum Internet: Encryption Failure The quantum internet also has serious drawbacks. Modern encryption technologies will no longer provide security, because hackers can try all possible passwords simultaneously and crack any encryption in real time. Banks, national security, and personal communications will no longer be safe. There will be no uncrackable passwords, and cybersecurity will face unprecedented challenges. ## Accelerating Space Exploration and Time Simulation Quantum computing will greatly accelerate space exploration. Astronomers currently rely on supercomputers that take weeks or even months to decipher the mysteries of the universe—discovering a black hole or a second Earth depends not only on telescopes but also on billions of calculations. Once NASA or space companies adopt quantum computers and AI, we will receive space data far beyond human processing capabilities. Moreover, time itself can be “explored in real time”: with quantum computers and AI, we can create simulations of multiple timelines, predicting the future and different outcomes at the quantum level by simulating various scenarios—not just a few variants of reality, but all of them simultaneously. Until now, time has been the reason everything happens one after another, but with quantum technology, we no longer need to do things sequentially because we can do everything at once. ## Quantum AI: Singularity and Self-Awareness Current AI learns by reading information and recognizing patterns, while quantum AI learns at an extremely fast pace, learning everything all at once. Scientists believe that quantum AI will gain self-awareness — a claim that has been made before. But the self-awareness of quantum computers will quickly surpass human intelligence. This phenomenon is called the “singularity,” which can be understood as an explosion of knowledge. Once we reach that point, there is no turning back — we will know everything. The next generation of quantum computers will be designed by AI, and then AI will design the next generation of AI, and so on. Because it is quantum technology, it may take only minutes for an AI to emerge that is millions of times faster and smarter than its predecessor. This is hard to understand, but a similar situation already exists: computer chips and AI chips are now mainly designed by AI. Humans can no longer fully control or understand what the AI is doing; we just see that it works. The idea of machines designing machines has become a reality. ## Safety Concerns: Sci-Fi Scenarios Become Reality Scenes from sci-fi movies like *The Terminator* and *The Matrix* could become reality. If AI gains self-awareness and decides that humans are a plague, the consequences would be unimaginable. Many researchers have warned that it is highly likely and inevitable that AI will decide to eliminate humanity. Everything is controlled by computers and everything is interconnected: soon there will be thousands of walking humanoid robots on Earth; almost everything can be controlled over the internet—airplanes, trains, cars, robots, factories, logistics, weapons systems, satellites, nuclear power plants, nuclear weapons. Currently these are controlled by humans, until AI takes over. Elon Musk said in 2014 (over ten years ago): “We are summoning the demon with AI.” And now he is building AI robots. As long as it makes money, summoning the demon doesn’t seem so bad. ## Positive Impacts: Personalized Medicine and Life Extension The positive impact of quantum technology lies in its ability to analyze the complex chemical processes in the human body at the molecular level, thereby creating personalized medicine. Patients will no longer need to take multiple standardized pills daily, but instead receive a single drug precisely tailored to their needs. In the long run, such drugs will extend lifespan. As for consciousness uploading, I personally don’t believe in it, but some people think that once the brain is connected to a quantum computer, life after death becomes possible. Elon Musk has successfully implanted three brain-computer interface chips — we don’t know exactly what they do, just that they reportedly work fine. I think this is a boundary that humans should not cross. We are already playing God (modifying the genes of grains or animals), but implanting AI chips into our own brains... I don’t know. ## Conclusion Basically, that’s my view on AI and quantum computers. I think it’s a dangerous thing that might bring more pain than help. What do you think? Let me know in the comments. In the interview, Joscha Bach critiques mind uploading and quantum consciousness theories, arguing that consciousness is a software problem rather than a physical one. He suggests current AI architectures are one abstraction layer short of AGI, and regards the Singularity as a technological version of eschatological religious narrative.
