MIT researchers have created a chip-based optical device that dynamically controls infrared light, enabling compact, tunable cameras for thermal imaging, chemical sensing, and pollution monitoring. The metasurface-based lens, described in Nature Communications, controls light at each pixel independently and can be manufactured using conventional semiconductor processes.
