Summary

The article recommends a vlog from Diary of a CEO featuring Daniel Kokotajlo, who discusses the pros and cons of AI development, his predictions of high risk of self-destruction, and alternate plans for safer outcomes.

With all of the back and forth on this sub of pros and cons to AI development, I'm surprised to see that nobody has put forward this pivotal discussion from the vlog Diary of a CEO featuring Daniel Kokotajlo. This is a really solid watch that I highly recommend, whether you think we're headed for disaster or not. He goes into the pros and cons quite heavily and his discomfort is readily apparent. But not just criticizing for it's own sake, this man actually has solutions. Previously he was a researcher in the governance division of OpenAI and then resigned, as so many do. He is co-author of the paper AI 2027 by the AI Futures Project non-profit which he cofounded, detailing his prediction that on our current trajectory we have a 70% chance of self-destruction. He also co-authored AI 2040 Plan A which is a possible alternate outcome he forecasts should developers make more conservative choices leading us away from disaster and into prosperity. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_g4l7YkDQwA
