I follow the comments in a very wide variety of media to get a clear idea of the political mood. One thing that's very clear is that people on the right just accept AI capabilities when told about them and most people on the left (and centre) deny them. I'm in the UK and if you look at comments on the Guardian or BBC website its full of people saying the Open AI hacks are marketing hype. On the Telegraph or Daily Mail site you see little of this and commenters minds goes immediately to Hal or the Terminator. Same with Youtube comments, I was just watching the Peter McCormack interview of Emad Mostaque and the comments are just accepting Emad's very exaggerated take on job replacement. However if I watch a Novara Media or The Rest Is Politics video it's full of angry comments claiming they've fallen for the Tech Bro hype when they report factually about the current state of AI and make very reasonable predictions.
