i came to bangkok thailand in november 2024 for a 2-month holiday
after the first month, i signed a contract on an apartment for a year
i knew that this was the place to isolate myself, live cheap and lock the fuck in
i was a freelancer web designer making around $3,000-8000 a month (depending on jobs) and i was doing well, but i really didn’t like working for other people, or the inconsistency of income
i found out about apps from Cal AI and i couldn’t believe a 19 yo kid was making so much money from a mobile app - so i started learning everything i possibly could
started with a therapy app, then a fitness app - both failed pretty hard - wasted a tonne of money on influencers and was about to give up
as a last attempt i added an “AI physique scan” feature to the fitness app - i 5x’d my prices (from $2.99/month to $9.99/week) and BOOM - people started converting and my rev shot up to $2,000 MRR
$2,000 wasn’t enough to quit my job though - so i had to scale harder - i was running tiktok ads at $50/day but i didn’t have enough money to scale - so i raised $20,000 from friends and family by making a pitch deck with proof of profitability at $50/day
it was good - but my ads would get rejected a lot for “promoting an ideal body type” - so i built & launched a looksmaxxing app in 2 days, ran the same ad format, and ran that up to $10,000 rev in a month too
i quit web design completely and went all in on the app - but still, after apple taxes and ad spend, the profit was only about $2000-3000. it was survivable, but again, not great
a few months ago i started posting on X - it was slow at first - but then i wrote an article on “lazymaxxing $10k mrr with tiktok ads” and it went viral as fuck
i had people in my DMs wanting to pay for consultations, sponsorships and so on - i knew immediately that this was the next move for me - growing my personal brand and unlocking new revenue streams
now i have 8 revenue streams and i’m making very good money - from something i genuinely enjoy - posting on X - and building web apps / tools for other builders to grow their businesses
i have no idea what lies ahead - i’ll probably keep personal-brand-maxxing because it’s by far the most enjoyable thing i’ve made money from - maybe i’ll lose relevance and find another thing, who knows
but what i do know is that after so many failures, and picking myself up time and time again, i am practically un-killable - i’ve been broke 4-5 times now, and every fucking time i manage to weasel myself out of it and find a new way to make money
i’m very grateful for whatever caused me to have this retarded mindset of banging my head against a wall until something eventually gives
KEEP GOING
love, will x
