OpenShorts is a self-hosted video platform with three tools bundled together.
The first one takes a long video, a podcast or a livestream, and cuts it into vertical shorts. Gemini reads the transcript and picks the 3 to 15 moments most likely to hold attention, YOLOv8 tracks the speaker’s face so the vertical crop stays on them, and Whisper burns in word-level subtitles.
The second one generates marketing videos with AI actors. You paste a product URL, it writes a script, generates a presenter with Flux, gives them a voice with ElevenLabs, lip-syncs the face, then adds b-roll and subtitles. The builder puts it at roughly 65 cents per video on the cheap pipeline and about 2 dollars on the premium one.
The third is a YouTube kit. You get thumbnails with your face dropped in, 10 title options you can refine in a chat, descriptions with chapter timestamps, and one-click publishing.
Everything runs in Docker on your own machine. It ships with no watermarks, no upload caps and no monthly plan. You pay the API providers directly, and the clipping part runs on Gemini’s free tier for close to nothing.
It sits at 2,400 stars and 669 forks. It started as a fork of a vertical autocrop tool and grew into this.
