**TL;DR: ChatGPT Pro and Business subscriptions now include monthly OpenAI API credits, and you can build API integrations directly through the OpenAI Developers plugin in Codex.** ## Build directly with the OpenAI API in Codex We’ve greatly simplified the process of building directly with the OpenAI API in Codex. Today, we have two things to introduce. ## First: API credits are now included in your subscription If you’re a ChatGPT Pro user, or your team uses ChatGPT Business, we now add API credits to your subscription every month. These new API credits can be used across the entire OpenAI platform. To get started, simply go to the Billing page in the ChatGPT app and link your API organization. ### Credit amounts - **Pro 200 plan**: **$200** in API credits added each month - **Pro 500 plan**: **$500** in API credits added each month This gives you plenty of room to experiment and build your own tools. ## Second: Put those API credits to work Once you have credits, the key is putting them to use. I really like the **OpenAI Developers plugin** in Codex, which makes getting started incredibly easy. I can use it to quickly build new API prototypes or add AI capabilities to existing projects. ### A practical example: A Mac writing assistant app I’m developing a small Mac app to help me write better emails and messages. The idea is simple: it checks my writing in real time as I type, regardless of which app I’m working in. I want to use the **Decisions API** to determine whether a piece of text is ready to send, needs minor edits, or requires a substantial rewrite. The app itself is ready, but it still needs to be connected to the OpenAI API. #### Complete the integration with the plugin Using the OpenAI Developers plugin, I enter this instruction: > Integrate the Decisions API to quickly check my writing when I finish typing, and use GPT-6.1 Terra to suggest edits. Here’s what happens next: 1. Codex first asks which API organization I want to use. 2. It then creates an API key specifically for this app. 3. Codex uses **ultrafast** to build the integration, starting with the Decisions API. 4. The editing functionality connects to the brand-new **GPT-6.1 Terra** model through the **Responses API**. Why choose Terra? It excels at writing and offers excellent value, making it the best choice for this task. ### The actual experience Once the app is ready, I type directly into it to test it: - In less than a second, the Decisions API indicates that the message could be clearer. - After I agree, Terra suggests edits that make it noticeably better. - With a keyboard shortcut, I can apply the suggested edits directly in context. All of these capabilities run on the API credits now included in my ChatGPT subscription. ## Start here Try using it to do something you’ve always wanted to do.
