Codex Pro at 200 bucks feels super flimsy to me—based on my experience, it’s less than a quarter of what a Claude Max 200-buck account can do. The former uses GPT-6 Astra Medium, while the latter runs on Opus 5.5 High.
How flimsy is it, you ask? Under normal use, while also running other models, you can pretty much burn through a full weekly reset quota for Codex in a single day. In about two days, you could exhaust the 62,500 points they give you—roughly 2,500 bucks worth of credits. It even feels like a countdown where you watch the quota ticking down bit by bit as you use it. So very Pro, not Max.
I really hope OpenAI steps it up 💪 and nails that impossible triangle of speed as fast as Opus 5.5, results just as good, and quotas just as generous. And I’m even more eager for domestic models to step up—been a while since we’ve seen any standout releases.
