Even Qwen finally folded and is open-weighting a Max model. They never opened any of the previous Max releases.
Chinese labs are clearly taking advantage of Anthropic’s recent PR mess and going all-in on open weights. The message is loud: they want Chinese open models to dominate globally.
Qwen3.8-Max is massive at 2.4T parameters, we now have multiple open models in SOTA territory and competing with models like GPT-5.6 Sol and Opus 4.8
But honestly, the model to watch next week is Qwen3.8-27B
Qwen3.6-27B was already one of the best local models you could run. A major upgrade at the same size could be an absolute game changer for local AI.
