The future of software
Summary
一位独立音乐软件开发者观察到新 VST 插件和数字合成器数量爆炸式增长,且越来越多昂贵的硬件乐器被反编译并开源免费,引发关于未来软件公司商业模式如何可持续的讨论。
I‘m an independent software developer. Built a handful of music making apps and some VST plugins through out the years. In the last month, the amount of new plugins has eerily grown exponentially, like 100x it feels like. Even hardware digital instruments (or semi-digital) are all being decompiled and open sourced, the same way Adobe has. $2,000 to $3,000 synthesizers are now open sourced and free -if you know where to find them (it’s not hard). I’m curious what everyone’s thoughts are regarding the future of software development. Like how do you think software companies are going to sustain themselves in 2-4 years time? I feel like business models will have to change.

@svpino: We can use a lot more software. We can also use better software. Demand for software right now is virtually infinite.
SVPino argues that demand for software is virtually infinite, prompting a discussion about whether software demand stretches like coal demand did under the Jevons paradox, or hits limits in human code review and ownership capacity.
