Agent observability has always been a case of everyone building their own: logging on their own, drawing their own dashboards. After Claude Code integrates with OTel, tool calls can directly feed into existing trace pipelines, allowing you to see exactly where the agent is stuck using off-the-shelf Grafana/Jaeger. Reusing infrastructure is more valuable than building yet another dashboard.
Daniel San (@dani_avila7): More Claude Code data is now available through Open Telemetry
If you’re already collecting sessions and sending telemetry to your own infrastructure, this is a big one
Having the actual tool outputs alongside your traces gives you much more context to understand what agents are

Anyone actually doing pattern analysis across their agent's traces, or are we all just eyeballing dashboards?
The author questions why engineers are not performing automated pattern analysis on agent traces, arguing that current observability tools like LangSmith and Langfuse lack the 'connection' step needed to compound knowledge from agent behavior, unlike personal knowledge systems.
