Why do progressives refuse to take AI seriously?

The AI billionaires are clearly ghouls but insisting on being luddites about the technology is so pathetic. They want to continue doing long multiplication by hand after the calculator has been invented and promulgated. They are begging to get left in the dust. They are so devoid of intellectual humility and a new technology like this begs of a bare minimum of that. We have no idea what it is or where its going but they insist on taking a hard line. Its basically reactionary thinking and I was hoping we could, as progressives, resist thinking this way immediately. Take AI back to some 19th century philosopher and watch them burst into tears after five minutes of using it. I'm just so disappointed with how pathetic progressives are insisting on being about this. TLDR: why cant progressives be the slightest bit intellectually humble in the face of this clearly revolutionary tech?
