X just started telling creators which of their posts got their reach quietly limited. Post by post, with the exact label.
For years, “shadowban” was the thing every creator complained about and nobody could prove. Your numbers drop, you guess why, you change everything, and you never actually know.
Now there is a feature called Under the Hood. It shows which of your posts received a visibility-limiting label during a report period.
The example screenshot X shared is super specific. 229 posts in September. 2 of them, or 0.87%, got a label called SPAM_HIGH_RECALL. What it means: the post was detected by automated systems as one that may contain spam. The effect: the post was hidden from recommendations to non-followers.
That last line is the whole game for anyone growing on X. Your followers can still see it, but the For You feed, where new people find you, never gets it.
There is one catch I find interesting. X says it lists the specific posts only when fewer than 5% of your posts in that period carry the label. So if a small slice got flagged, you see exactly which ones. If it is a bigger pattern, you see the label but not the full list.
X also says the report is best-effort and that the code generating it is open source. Honestly, that is a big shift for a platform that used to be a black box.
The reaction tells you how badly people wanted this. The original post has over 2 million views, and it has been bookmarked more than it has been liked. Elon reposted it too, and his post alone has 1.7 million views.
My take: this is great for serious creators and terrible for guessing games. You can finally separate “my content was weak” from “a classifier flagged me.”
I assume a lot of growth advice is about to get rewritten. The algorithm still decides, but now it leaves a receipt.
