Dr Dre says AI isn’t a threat to the music business. Maybe that’s because making music is no longer the barrier it once was. AI is rapidly making it possible for ordinary people to create music that sounds professionally produced. The scarce resource now is attention. And that still massively favours people who already have an audience. Dre can release something tomorrow and millions will know about it. I can make something that sounds great and almost nobody will know it exists. So perhaps AI doesn’t kill the music industry. It just changes where the power sits. And if you already sit at the top, it’s probably no surprise that you don’t see much of a problem.
