Summary

During intense volatility in the cryptocurrency market, a user shared the performance differences between Binance and OKX applications, noting that Binance's system recovered more quickly under high traffic, while OKX remained relatively normal.

Today afternoon's pin, my own long positions were liquidated. Fortunately, the position size was small, so the loss was minimal, but I learned a lesson: in such volatile markets, leverage should not be used carelessly. When the market is highly volatile, people executing stop-losses, closing positions, buying the dip, and chasing orders all rush into the exchange simultaneously, leading to a significant increase in market data refreshes, order cancellations, and new order requests within a short time. From my actual experience, the Binance App's market display and trading functions quickly returned to normal, without much impact on my subsequent operations. Facing sudden traffic surges, the ability to quickly handle pressure and maintain core trading is commendable for Binance's system performance this time. Of course, it's normal for users to encounter lag and provide feedback or complaints. However, a brief app slowdown and a complete technical failure in the entire trading system are two different levels of issues. To determine the nature of the fault, one must also consider whether matching is interrupted, if orders are abnormal, the actual scope of impact, and official records. Based on what I've seen so far, I'm more inclined to interpret it as a transient congestion caused by extreme market conditions. The true stress test for an exchange is whether it can maintain core trading under peak traffic and how quickly it recovers after congestion.

Today’s afternoon price swing got me liquidated on my long position too. Fortunately, my position was small, so losses were minimal, but I’ve learned my lesson: in volatile markets like these, you really shouldn’t use leverage recklessly.

During extreme volatility, people rushing to stop losses, close positions, buy the dip, and chase trades all flood the exchange simultaneously. This leads to a sharp increase in market data updates, order cancellations, and new order requests within a short period.

From my own experience, Binance’s app displayed market data and executed trades reasonably quickly, and I was able to continue trading without significant disruption.

Handling sudden traffic spikes while maintaining core trading functions, Binance’s system load performance this time was commendable.

Of course, users encountering lag, giving feedback, or complaining is entirely understandable. However, a slightly laggy app is still a different issue from a complete technical failure in the entire trading system.

To judge the nature of such an incident, one must also consider whether order matching was disrupted, if orders were placed abnormally, the actual scope of impact, and official records.

Based on the information available now, I’m more inclined to interpret this as instantaneous congestion caused by extreme market conditions.

The true stress test for an exchange is whether it can maintain core trading during peak traffic, and how quickly it recovers after congestion.

Lu-ge Cleaning Up Crypto (@lugeweb3): Just saw $523 million liquidated across the network in 1 hour, there was a sharp movement, the Binance APP was very laggy to access, while the OKX APP worked normally.

(Because I’m used to checking charts on Binance, it wouldn’t refresh, so I opened OKX for comparison)

Possible reasons:

1️⃣ Binance has way more users than OKX, so its server load was much heavier. 2️⃣ Binance’s tech stack might be inferior to OKX’s.
