Gergely Orosz criticizes Gartner's AI reports as pay-to-play, noting that AWS and Microsoft pay for favorable rankings while Anthropic, OpenAI, and Cursor do not, leading to skewed results like AWS being ranked above Anthropic and OpenAI omitted.

Gartner is the laughing stock of the industry with their AI reports, but it cannot help itself: Gartner is pay-to-play: to rank "well", they want $$$ Anthropic, OpenAI and Cursor don't pay, but AWS and Microsoft do. So Gartner says AWS > Anthropic, doesn't even list OpenAI 🤡

Gartner is the laughing stock of the industry with their AI reports, but it cannot help itself:

Gartner is pay-to-play: to rank “well”, they want $$$

Anthropic, OpenAI and Cursor don’t pay, but AWS and Microsoft do. So Gartner says AWS > Anthropic, doesn’t even list OpenAI

Also, IBM pays but Cursor and Anthropic do not, so Garner’s report faithfully says that IBM’s ability to execute on GenAI is far better than Cursor or Microsoft.

Anyone paying ANY attention to Gartner is an idiot. Hard to put it any other way, I’m sorry. This report is BS

Usually ~80% of the “leaders” pay. Never seen “the” leader (the one on the top right) not be a company that pays.

But Gartner will not disclose, of course, even the fact of which companies on this list pay vs do not pay… their business is too lucrative

Pretty sure AI is destroying Gartner, because AI companies no longer pay a single cent to Gartner

–> Gartner cannot say things as is (highlight non-customer vendors as leading ones, when they are)

–> all their AI reports are

–> decision-makers learn to ignore Gartner

–> there’s now no reason to pay the “Gartner tax” for anyone

It’s super visible with AI vendors as they don’t pay Gartner

Gartner customers, obviously
