What if the government (excluding the Department of War) started using AI for productivity?

Summary

A discussion on how the government (excluding military) could use AI to enhance productivity, with a focus on mental health services as a public good.

I marked this as economics because that's how I'm approaching the question. What goods and services can the government provide in the future to enhance productivity aimed towards citizens? I believe in free markets and the potential/possibility for a public good to be more efficient than private sector. One I thought of is mental health services. There is a huge unmet demand that I think an AI can "assist" in. The ability to act as a "less personal" medium can reduce the number of visits and documentation for professionals and still be effective. Long term societal benefits. Good oversight will keep confidentiality for the good of the public and make subsidized accessibility extremely easy. Do you think there have been discussions about the government being a first mover in robotics and AI? As difficult as it seems maybe it's something worthwhile. (The topic of the military is not part of this, I'm looking more on the topic of measurable benefits to society/the taxpayer)
