DeepSeek is getting a bit carried away in the talent war.
In 2026, AI talent is extremely scarce, especially for versatile individuals like Li Bojie, who not only have top-tier conference papers but also hands-on engineering experience from a major company like Huawei. If I were an interviewer, I would treat him as a prized asset. Yet things turned out this way—it’s a classic case of immature processes and inconsistent interviewer quality.
In the current AI landscape, top talent is extremely limited. Companies are fiercely competing for people, but good companies should have a more professional and respectful interview process. After all, DeepSeek is a leading AI company in China. It’s truly regrettable that their reputation has been harmed by the actions of their interviewers.
Note: Li Bojie entered the Special Class for the Gifted Young at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) in 2010 as an undergraduate. From 2014 to 2019, he completed his PhD through a joint program between USTC and Microsoft Research Asia. His research primarily focuses on network systems and reconfigurable hardware, such as the application of FPGAs in data centers. He has received honors including the Microsoft Research Asia Fellowship, the ACM China Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences President Award. In 2019, he joined Huawei’s 2012 Laboratories Central Software Institute as one of the first batch of “Genius Youth” recruits, where he served as an Assistant Scientist and later Deputy Chief Expert in the Computer Networking and Protocols Laboratory.

@9hills: AI for Work is quite subtle inside many enterprises. Using general-purpose agents (Hermes, WorkBuddy, etc.) paired with the DeepSeek-V4-Pro model can optimize many repetitive tasks. But from what I observe, unlike programmers who actively burn tokens to improve efficiency and accelerate their own obsolescence…
A user observes the current state of internal AI applications: general-purpose agents with DeepSeek V4 Pro can optimize repetitive tasks, but traditional role departments often propose complex requirements that are hard to implement, while secretly using them privately, demonstrating a kind of survival wisdom.

@Xudong07452910: The ticket to top AI labs is no longer just academic glory! Recently, I read a hardcore ML interview review article. The author received offers from DeepMind and other top AI companies. There's a very realistic observation in the article: Even if you have multiple first-author papers at top AI conferences, your resume can only get you into the interview room.
